Building in Taipa together

Participatory construction site

We are delighted to announce that we will open a participatory construction site in Taipa in August this year !

Our project called “Terra Livha” is located near Garvao, in the beautiful South Alentejo region, in Portugal. Terra Livha is a collective eco-village project starting to take shape here in Portugal. You can discover more about Terra Livha project here.

This construction project consists in restoring Taipa rammed earth walls of an old farm of around 300m2, with traditional methods. Indeed, as the building’s roof is in very poor condition, an urgent invervention is required to treat the upper part of the rammed earth walls, in order to prepare for installation of a new roof later this year. The old roof will be removed beforehand, so that the operation will be entirely focused on repairing the top part of these walls, along with possibly some additional repairs of the rammed earth walls.

The work will be led by Miguel Ferreira Mendes and his team of specialists in Taipa. Miguel is an architect and expert in earth construction, member of the “CRAterre“ team, and is a reknown instructor in earth construction.

This is a unique opportunity to learn and practice Taipa construction and restoration, being guided and working along experienced Taipa instructors and specialists.

The spirit of this construction project is open, with values of sharing knowledge and best practices with the participants, so that everyone can efficiently learn by practicing.

Program

• Monday to Saturday, resting day on sunday

• Work from 7am until 12am, then from 5pm to 7pm (avoids hottest hours).
• You can participate for the entire period (13 to 30th of August) or for a shorter period, depending on your availability.

Logistics and compensation €

• Accommodation : Included on our camping site. There is access to water, bathroom and showers. You may bring your own tent or van, or we can provide a tent for you.

• Food : Fully included (3 meals per day + a snack and drinks)

• A daily financial compensation is possible (between 30€ and 40€ per day depending on different factors)
